1. What is the NEA Eco Music Challenge about?
The NEA Eco Music Challenge 2012 provides a platform for talented and passionate individuals to express their appreciation and support for our beautiful environment through music. Moreover, it serves to spread the environment message and encourage everyone to take action and care for our environment. We invite all aspiring songwriters to support the environmental cause and write a song for a Clean and Green Singapore!
2. Who is eligible to take part?
Singaporeans and permanent residents aged 18 and above are eligible.
Participants 18 and under can still take part in the contest by submitting a parental consent form available here.
In addition to the Open Category, a new Schools Category has been introduced to enable students from primary and secondary schools to compete among their peers.
3. Can I record a song in other languages?
Yes, entries in Chinese, Malay or Tamil are accepted.
4. Are group entries allowed?
Yes, you may take part as an individual or a group.
You can even take part as a school group, together with your music teacher, as long as your teacher is not an employee of NEA, our sponsors or supporting partners. However, the prize will be presented only to the composer.
5. How do I submit a song?
You can submit your audio or video entries online via http://nea.ecomusic.sg. Alternatively, you may email us your entries at nea.ecomusic@aux.com.sg or snail mail your recording to the following address:

6. What are the submission requirements?
Submissions should meet the following requirements:
- Recorded in audio or video format;
- Recorded in English, Mandarin, Malay or Tamil;
- Recorded composition should consist of a verse and chorus with a duration of at least 1 minute;
- The entry should be an original composition which is unpublished and not performed.
Before you submit your entry, please ensure you have read, understood, and agree to abide by all the Terms and Conditions and Contest Rules.
7. Can I submit more than 1 song?
Yes, but only 1 song will be selected for the finals.
In the event that NEA receives two similar entries by two different participants, only the participant who submitted the entry first will be eligible for the contest.
8. How is the selection process like?
NEA will shortlist 20 participants for the semi-finals, comprising 14 teams from the Open Category and 6 teams (3 from the primary and 3 from secondary) from the Schools Category. The shortlisted 20 finalists for the semi-finals will be notified via email and/or phone. The semi-finals will be held on 28 July 2012 at a venue to be confirmed.
From the semi-finals, 10 teams from the Open Category and 2 teams from the Schools Category will go into the Grand Finale.
All 12 finalists are required to complete a 3-week mentorship in order to qualify for the Grand Finale.
All 12 finalists will perform their songs at the Grand Finale concert on 25 August 2012 where the top 3 winners will be crowned.
9. What is the judging criteria?
The short-listing of qualifying entries will be based on the criteria below:
- Judges 80%
- Public 20%
The finalists competing for the top prizes at the finale concert will be judged based on the criteria below:
- Composition 60%
- Delivery 20%
- Costume and Choreography 20%
10. How else can I participate in the contest if I am not submitting songs?
Voting:
The contest is open for public voting. Public voting begins on 1 April 2012 at 1200 hours SGT and ends on 7 July 2012 at 2359 hours SGT
You may vote once for the same entry and up to an unlimited number of entries.
